Ghar il-Kbir – Glimpses of Maltan Cavemen
Existence of cavemen seems a weird thought for many who are still unprepared to believe that early men lived in caves. Well, History has its own evidences to unfurl the veracity.
One such interesting evidence of cavemen is available at Ghar il-Kbir (the Great Cave) in the island of Malta, south of Sicily. Although there is no corroboration about the date of the earliest settlers at Ghar il-Kbir, however its first allusion can be found in 1544, referred in Simone Camilleri de gar il-chibir.
German scholar Athanasius Kircher provides a vivid elaboration of the Ghar il-Kbir, in his Mundus Subterraneus. The Great Cave is an assemblage of eight smaller caves on two different levels, which encloses a massive natural cavern. Smaller caves were inhabited by the cavemen, with stonewalls at the entrance as well as inside the cave, which separated each quarter from the other. With the roof of the cavern collapsed. Interestingly the caves lack wall painting unlike other sites, however immaculate craftsmanship of the dwellers is clearly reflected in the crosses and holy pictures. Moreover, the especially designed loops in the shelves, ducts, ceiling and niches in the Ghar il-Kbir are remarkable pieces of work that deserve a unique status in antiquity.

Salar de Uyuni Serves You The World’s Largest Natural Mirror
Have you ever experienced your reflection in a natural mirror right under the sun? No, then visit the Salar de Uyuni, in Southe west Bolivia, close to the crest of Andes, at an altitude of 3,650 meters. The stretch of salt extends to 4,085 square miles and is about 10 meters thick.
During the wet season, the salt stretch transforms into a natural mirror, since a sheet of water layer enables to reflect any image that falls on it. Most of the time, the sunny blue sky is apparently visible in the mirror that makes a stupendous spot for tourists from all round the world.
It has been estimated that the Salar contains about 10 million tons of salt, and about 25.000 tons is extracted every year. That adds to the global benefit. More so, researchers make good use of the salty stretch for testing and calibration of the remote sensing instruments on the satellites. This is extremely useful for studying the Earth. The advantage is that, the sky above Salar is crystal clear; therefore, the surface proves to be five times better for calibration than the surface of the ocean.

Pat and Catherine Patterson at 62 and 48 in 2002 respectively, had begun their “world tour” four years ago. The couple sold their real-estate company and cars, bought a new home and let that up for rent, and gave their furniture to their children. They had set out for a journey “leaving it all behind”.
It was way back in 1985, while on his brief trip to China, that Pat realized the essence of liberty for the first time in his life. At the end of his tour to China, Pat realized the “insanity” of touring foreign countries on bike. Some years later, Pat got married to Catherine, and while helping Pat in compiling his photos from his bicycling trip in China, she proposed for such a trip together.
Pattersons began their trip in 2002, biking from California in the east, transversing United States to reach Greenland, further, they continued through Europe and Russia moving down to Africa, and taking to southern Chile and lastly making their way back to California.
