AquaDom – Largest aquarium in the world

One of the finest creations – AquaDom in Berlin, Germany is the largest acrylic glass cylinder in the world. Situated in the Radisson SAS Hotel, the 25-meter high cylindrical formation stands on a 9 meters elevated platform, with over 11 meters of diameter. This marvelous aquarium contains 900,000 liters of seawater and hosts 2600 fishes of 56 species.

Constructed by the U.S Company, Reynolds Polymer Technology, the AquaDom was built at a cost of 12.8 million Euros. Eventually, it was opened to the public in December 2003. The aquarium is a perfect blend of huge amount sandblasted glass, which lends a lucid touch to the lobby. Visitors can enjoy their trip through the aquarium in a glass-enclosed elevator that takes them to the sightseeing point. There are two full-time divers for, maintenance of the fish tank as well as feeding the fishes. Some of interior suits and rooms are especially designed to offer a privileged oceanic panorama of AquaDom.

  • That is truly impressive. I would love to see this in person, I bet I would be speechless. We have the Aquarium here in Chicago but it does not compare at all to this!
  • Man that is impressive. Any idea how thick the acrylic is as the water pressure near the bottom must be massive! The photo of showing the lift is pretty good too.

  • Are you kidding me ? I wonder how they give food to the fish ... or how they change water ...
  • Very beautiful.Kind of too expensive for my living room, but nice to visit where it stands ;-)
  • Hi there,

I've been in the hotel and spent a solid hour sipping a coffee and admiring the species that are swimming in circles. :-)

Highly recommended! The best part - it's free.

If you happen to shell out cca 13 Euros to visit adjacent SeaLife aquarium, you will be able to enjoy an even better view from the elevator which goes _inside_ the cylinder!

    Cheers!
