I had no idea there were still so many kings and people of royalty around the world. I’ve never even heard of some of those countries. It is nice to hear that some actually use their money in good ways, i.e. the King of Saudi Arabia helping the conjoined twins and others promoting economic reform. Good post!

  • jcw

I live in Riyadh and have driven past Malik Abdullah’s home (in Riyadh, he has palaces all over the place). The really cool thing is that there are little blinking blue LED’s embedded in the street leading up to his palace. I am not sure why they are there, but it looks seriously cool at night. The really amazing thing is that from the street you really can’t see very much of what is there, which is the norm for homes in this part of the world. Its probably the most outwardly modest $21 billion dollar home ever. :)

When I was in Spain I could tel that a lot of people really love the King. He is not very charming, but he really helped bringing back democracy after Franco died.
But… he is a direct descendant of many famous European rulers from different countries. He is a descendant of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom; of Louis XIV of France; of the Emperor Charles V, who belonged to the Habsburg dynasty of the Roman Empire (The Roman Empire!!!); and of the House of Savoy of Italy… You know, the power gets you and your family more power.

    Hi buddy,

The palace picture for the Dragon king of Bhutan is wrong. The picture shows the Fortress of Punakha in the old capital, now used both as the district administrative centre and the winter residence of the chief abbot and the central monk body.

  • Lawrence Hartley

Wy is it that when talking about our Great monarch, Queen Elizabeth, they get things so wrong. the palace is smaller than what is mentioned and they dont mention the other palaces and castles that she owns. Also her wealth is underestimated, we her subjects understand that she own the royal collection. A collection worth over £10 billion, plus vast estates and holdings.
Her Majesty is too humble to admit to the wealth and that is one of her wonderful qualities.

    Lawrence Hartley

  • Paul Ren

The thought of so many monarchies still existing in this day and age of advanced society is utterly disgusting. People are not 'subjects' to any other man and have inalienable (moral) rights. Any government over people should derive only from the social contract amongst the governed. Inherited monarchies are an abomination.

Thanks alot. I was to preach the Gospel of Christ Jesus as the King of Kings the very next day but was not quite prepared on how to do it. It troubled me whole through the time I was asked by the regualr preacher (Priest) to preach the coming Sunday. Going through the kingdoms of the world gave me a lead and I preached an inspiring message. I didn’t know and many people didn’t know that we still have many kings and queens in the world until I visited this site. Great job – please keep posting more. Ta!

That’s interesting. Monarchies are a sturdy implementation of the 20th century!

  • gpt site

this information was very helpful. thanks!

  • mc0558

You show palaces that no one lives in. For example the Palace in Madrid may be the “official” residence of Juan Carlos, but he has never slept there in his life. It’s a museum. Juan Carlos has a far more modest sort of place. King Abdullah’s home in Riyadh is certainly not the place you show. I drove past it two weeks ago in Riyadh. It’s a palace alright but nothing like a square mile in size. I don’t know what you’re showing.

Always interesting to find out the royals and their rich-living.

  • Hamid Chohan

The information provided here is much interesting but there is an element of bias in it. The provider of this information has not mentioned about wealth of many monarchs. I fail to understand this omission.

  • Ahameedm59

I thought that there are only five kings, four of cards and the fifth of brunei.Amazing

  • Jle_vbeer05

so interesting! it is so awesome to have kings and queens ruling a state.

  • http://www.gab.org.bt Garab Dorji

Druk Gyalpo Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchhuk is the 5th Dragon king of the secluded Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. The Oxford-educated bachelor of 28 years is the youngest reigning monarch in the world. The Linkana is the official residence of our humble monarch .Its just a ordinary House not even a mansion . Its below TrashichoeDzong which is the seat of the government .The photograph you have is that of punakha Dzong not even Tashichoedzong .

Beautiful world, Beautiful Palaces :D ……Loved the list!!!!!…..Cheers!!!

  • Samcapone

The image of official residence of King of Bhutan is not correct. The Image that is there is of Punakha Dzong which is there in the winter capital of Bhutan: Punakha (one of the districts of Bhutan) and not Tashichoedzong Palace which is in capital city of Thimphu.

  • http://www.puja-brunei.com/ The Sultan Of Brunei

Have no words to say. The luxurious life of these kings is unimaginable. Sultan of Brunei have 110 cars and 1788 rooms in his palace. A whole city can live in his palace.

  • jubjub

How do they assign this “worth” to each royalty? If based on accumulated wealth alone I do not see how King of Thailand can exceed Sultan of Brunei or any royalty in the middle east.

    P.S. I’m Thai

A very interesting collection indeed. How about a collection of defunct Kingdoms like the Mumia’s of Kenya…

  • geneius_20

this net worth is unfair. the Kings of Europe: like Spain, and England should be on top.
just the value of their irreplaceable art collections should be worth billions…

Wow, How I wish I can go inside one of the palace.

  • britty

i am surprised at how many monarchs there is left in the world, i was surprised by how many countries aren’t republics. this website was very useful, thanks.
LONG LIVE QUEEN ELIZABETH II OF GREAT BRITAIN AND THE COMMONWEALTH!!!

  • Flexible cogito

I thought with all that money, you should be able to get any dwelling you like. IMHO only the King of Japan got it right, along with King of Spain, Dragon King of Bhutan, and Aga Khan with their respective palaces. Yes, I have a weakness for living near a water body.
But the wives of King of Malaysia and King of Morocco must be commended for their attire, very regal. :)

  • Mpweragoda

this page was very useful for my studies of Japan history and world history..thanks a lot..and add more information about emperors of world.

  • Cleo

The English are so intelligent and modest.  There is only one fool fool enough to call himself “emperor” on this list.  IF the Brits won’t use that title, who else would dare to.  What nerve!

When the reign of Democracy crumbles under its inefficiency, Monarchy will once more rise; for it is far better to hand Governance to few wise and able men than hundreds of foolish, common and incompetent people.

Queen Elizabeth II is Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, England, Wales, Scotland & Northern Irealand, Queen of her Commonwealth Realms of Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Burmuda, Papua New Gunia, Antigua & Barbados. Therefore I can say “Queen of New Zealand” because Her Majesty is also our Queen. And Long May she Reign! 60 years and more relivant than ever with a bright future ahead in The Duke of Cambridge.

  • Damojnoble

Our Monarchies are more important than ever in this modern world, all the nations in crisis today are Republics, Politician are in power for their party politics and alot of the time self gain, a non politicial Head of State, unifies and stands for all their countrymen.

damn, lesotho sucks!lol ALL HAIL THE DRAGON KING OF BHUTAN thats so cool! XD

  • ugyen

You got Bhutan wrong. That is firstly not Tashi chhoe dzong. It is called Punakha Dzong i.e Punakha being a state and dzong meaning a fortress. That fortress is not the residence of our king. It is the winter residence of the Royal monastic Body of Bhutan. Our king lives in a small house in Thimphu by the river which cannot even be called a mansion leave aside as palace .
