Nick VujicicHe was born without limbs but not without hopeNick Vujicic is the Director of “Life without Limbs” and acts as a motivational speaker inspiring millions of physically disabled persons. Born to a devout Christian family in Melbourne, Australia on 4th December 1982, Nick was a congenital amputee, missing both arms at shoulder level and had one small foot with two toes.

Nick’s life had many hardships, more so at his school. On being bullied by others in school he got extremely depressed, almost on the verge of attempting suicide before he began to recognize that his feats could inspire many. He learned to write using the two toes, and later on learned to operate computer and type using the “heel and toe” method. With the turn of events, at seventeen, Nick offered speeches to his prayer group and in due course started his non-profit organization, “Life Without Limbs.”

Nick cracks great jokes on the way people react to his appearance. He loves the way kids react at him. On one occasion, a kid shocked at his appearance exclaimed “what happened!” Nick replied – “Cigarettes.” Nevertheless, Nick continues his good work for the disabled and plans to promote his thoughts through his ‘No Arms, No Legs, No Worries!’ to be completed by the end of 2007.

    Nick,
    You're so so soooo inspirational.
Before you, I barely believed in anything at all. Including myself.
You came to my church, Westside here in Bend, Oregon. You also came to my school, Mt. View, but I happened to miss that day. My friends told me all about you. I wanted to meet you so bad then I heard you were going to be in town until Sunday. I couldn't believe it. I WAS going to meet you. I came to church that Easter morning, and I was in Aw. You really DID change my life Nick. In school we were supposed to write about a hero in our lives, and I honestly had no one I could look up to 10 percent. Then two days later I met you. When you said "Every girl in here is so beautiful" I just broke down get tears. I don't get that a lot. And, yes you were talking to the entire room, but I felt like you were looking directly into my eyes, and I was in the very back room. It's only been at least 6 hours since I seen you, and I cannot stop thinking about how much you've touched me. I want to meet you again. I will meet you again.
Anyway, after you spoke, everyone had gotten in line to give you hugs. I thought it would be weird for you, like you were in some kind of museum or something. I actually held myself together pretty well until you hugged me. Yes. YOU HUGGED ME. I felt the warmth. I felt God through you. I felt God's arms wrap around me. I am so grateful I got to meet you, and talk with you briefly. I wanted to s stay longer and ask a few questions, but I could feel the tears well up in my eyes. All I could do is walk away. I know that sounds strange, but I hide myself a lot, and I knew the power you had given to me was overwhelming and I didn't want make a scene by my emotions.
You know, I'm not sure you'll even get this, or if this is YOU, but if it is, it would mean the world to me to get a response. I know you don't remember me. But, I know for a fact, I will never, EVER forget you. I just met you, and you told me you loved me, and to keep going, and you have no idea how much that meant to me. I wanted to talk, back but I couldn't keep myself together long enough to.
I went to a couple of your sites and browsed a bit, and it's very obvious you have touched many many people's lives. Because of you, I feel like I was just born. I am just now starting to LIVE. I know this all sounds crazy, and scrambled up but I have to say I'm not much of a writer, or speaker. I can't even explain the strength you have given me. I love you. I really do. I don't have any crazy stories about my life to share with you, but I feel like you have opened my eyes. I can see now. I look at everything different. Thank you so much. You're way of life, and philosophies are truly beautiful. I thank God that you are here, and I want to stay in touch with you. You're my hero, my role model, my friend.

    I cannot thank you enough.
    God Bless.

    With Love,
    Melody

A little update for Melody & anyone else who uses Facebook & would like to be in touch with Nick:

He just created a new Facebook account that mirrors the one he's been using, so that he can add more friends (since he doesn't have many on the new account yet). His first FB friends list maxed out within only a couple months, so don't delay too long in adding him!

Also for those who don't want to use Facebook, but are interested in keeping up with Nick & his activities, (as the lifewithoutlimbs.org website doesn't update too frequently) see his personal updates on Twitter at http://m.twitter.com/nickvujicic

    Dear Melody,
I got here by searching for the title of Nick's book (to be launched sometime next year), & when I read what you wrote here, it touched me so much, I just felt "Nick has got to see this!" Also, since you said at the end of your letter, that you want to stay in touch with him, I want to share the following with you.

If you have a Facebook account, you can write to or add him personally (for real) at
    http://www.facebook.com/people/Nicholas-James-Vuj...

I have to warn you, it may take coming back & trying to add him every couple weeks or so, because most of the time he's maxed out his friends limit (on Facebook they won't allow you to have more than 5,000 friends on your list at a time). But if you really want to get in touch, & see updates from him personally from time to time, don't give up trying to add him, as the number of friends on his Facebook account fluctuates from between 4,980 to 5,004 even tho' 5,000 is the FB friends limit. It took me several weeks & a lot of patience before I succeeded in adding him, but it did finally work out. Like Nick says, "If it's God's will, it'll happen in His time." :)

He posted a video of himself on his FB account, explaining that he has thousands of people writing him, & with only his heel & 2 toes to type, as much as he'd love to reply to each email, "If I try to reply to all of you, my foot's gonna die, and I need my foot to be able to walk..." so I can't guarantee he'll be able to respond to your letter, but I know it'll be an incredible encouragement to him to read it, even if he can't reply.

I pray you'll see this, if it's God's will. May He bless you in your life's journey, dear sister in Jesus.
    Love,
    Nina
