Designed by Pierre Chareau in 1932, this edifice bears a deep impact on different generations of architects, overwhelming the nature of Modernism. The house recorded a cult status – enhanced be its inaccessibility. Its first floor acted as an office for a handful of scholars and patients of a gynecologist, until it served as special guest quarters for the friends of the doctor’s family.

Built during a brief sting between the World Wars, Maison de Verre signifies obsession for hygiene and describes the concept that the house functions as a tool for psychic as well as physical healing. Viewed from within the house appears to be a glowing translucent box. Embedded in the 18th-century fabric, the great glass-block façade looks fabulous and capped with old one-story apartment.

Reflecting the relic of old Paris, enclosing a world of 19th-century boulevards and medieval squares, Maison de Verre has often been described as a sophisticated piece of furniture.
