Rarely had the supersonic debuted successfully in the commercial travel platform – legal, economic and technological issues taking its toll on Concorde few years ago. However, contemplation for attempts to shrink the peripatetic routes with aerial speed continued. One of the latest in series of attempts – SBJ, is expected to be the first supersonic business jet in the world. Developed by Aerion, a small Reno, Nev. aeronautical engineering company, the ground-breaking design is expected to elude the Concorde-problems.

With over $1.5 billion bookings already realized, the company has announced the launch of its private aircraft within the next decade. First in the line are customers who have paid $250,000 deposits. Targeted at the market for private business jets, SBJ would focus on shortening corporate conveyance. With its business-jet production forecasted to be worth some $191 billion over the next decade. According to the sources, the aircraft would be using the common JT8D, incorporating manufacturing components and electronic systems similar to large business jets. Evidently, the supersonic would be fabricated on the lines of existing subsonics.

The SBJ project would be build on an investment of $2.2 billion, with Aerion mulling over a partner to produce the design later this year. The deliveries of the supersonic are expected by 2014.
